Hello fellow aquarium friends, TJ here with my amazing hubby Kevin. Welcome to our blog. This is my first time writing a ‘blog’, I had to look that word up as honestly I didn't know exactly what a 'blog' is. Definition- "a regularly updated website or web page, typically one run by an individual or small group that is written in an informal or conversational style" OK, no sweat! Easy peasy right? Well of course, I agonized over what on earth to say, like how do you even start your first blog post? With some time and thought I just started writing and here it is! I'm super excited to get this first post out and look forward to writing many more! So with no more waiting, let's get to it.... Who we are: We live in the mountains of Colorado and stay pretty dang busy with all of our animals and aquariums. Two Mastiffs, two French bulldogs’, two cats, backyard chickens and 14 tanks. OK, ok, I will admit it...we are serious animal and aquarium lovers! Living as some would say ‘in the sticks’ is not for everyone. We are remote so if we want to go have a quick lunch or run to the store, we have to travel and that means taking into account the travel time which is an hour + to the nearest town. Order a pizza for delivery, not happening! The lack of fast food (we miss you Taco Bell) means we have to cook which really means we eat a whole lot healthier. And of course, weather up here can make for a wide array of conditions so it just means planning is key, especially with all of the tanks. Scariest words out here are Power Outage, a good generator is a must! Yes, I know some people think we are a little crazy for living so far out but we don’t mind, like I said, it’s not for everyone. As with anything, there are pros and cons, it all depends on how you view the proverbial partial glass of water. Our glass is usually half full, most days it's runneth over. We love living here and enjoying our fuzzy critters and fish room. I am a hobby newbie, well…not a complete newb, I have been enjoying the journey with Kevin for 8 years now. I have learned so much from him and continue to soak in new stuff every day. I am a photographer too, my other passion, so it’s a perfect match as I can’t stop taking pictures of life and in particular, the tanks! With so many beautiful corals, fish, inverts, macroalgae, even copepods and amphipods....reef keeping gives me an endless supply of photographic opportunities! YAH!! Kevin has been in the hobby for 25+ years, working for a number of years in the business for Brightwell Aquatics. Kevin’s time with the company has afforded him an extensive knowledge of their line. He literally knows each product like the back of his hand and has a complete understanding of their application in the aquarium. Their products have done amazing things for our tanks. The consistency and quality is unmatched. With so many aquariums large and small, we need to be able to count on what we put in our tanks and Brightwell we trust. Why we are here: The one thing I have learned from the experience so far is that there is no perfect aquarium, you can have a basic tank or a magnificent set up, you can have everything dialed in and it’s inevitable that something may still crash at some point! The most frustrating part is that sometimes there are no answers as to what went wrong. You can spend countless hours researching for answers and you will find tons…but what is the right answer? There is no right answer, just the pursuit of what’s right for you. It can certainly be frustrating to dig through so much information and hope you are choosing the best advice. I don’t profess to have all the right answers just what has worked for us and might just work for you. We want to share the aquarium journey with you. Here on the blog we will share our struggles and triumphs and we want to hear about yours. Occasional venting sessions like the loss of a new wrasse who jumped to his demise, dreaded bubble and hair algae or celebratory news like testing your tank and finding that all of your water parameters are spot on, together with some informative topics like nutrient levels, coral nutrition, filtration and tank maintenance should make a for a great place to stop by and catch the latest. The best part is that we are also your number one online source for Brightwell Aquatics! No matter which product, size or quantity you can find it at High Country Corals. Always fresh and never out of stock! We encourage questions, suggestions and feedback, we would love to hear from you! Always happy to answer any Brightwell product questions and or just general tank questions too. What you can do: Keep joining us here at the Monthly!
